THE SHEPHERD’S VOICE
Every three years the Bishop provides the opportunity for an “away convocation” for all of his priests, Father Ikenna and I just experienced those three days of renewal this past week.
What happens at a convocation of priests? The days are clearly scheduled, but the atmosphere is very relaxed. We listen to talks on our ministry and spirituality as priests, pray the Divine Office and celebrate the Eucharist together, and have time to fraternize with our colleagues at meals and on walks around the grounds of our former seminary in Huntington. More than 300 diocesan priests, active and retired, were present on Wednesday to listen to Bishop DiMarzio and Bishop Barres (of Rockville Centre), a very inspiring sight.
To be effective ministers of Jesus Christ, we priests are constantly trying to grow in our knowledge of the faith, in our pastoral skills, and especially in our prayer life. This dynamic is true for every real Christian: our relationship with the Lord urges us to go deeper and deeper in love and in service. How are you ensuring that you continue to grow in Christ?
